PUMA - Of The Same Earth | Video

It is quite heart wrenching really, that Africa has been torn apart by so many different things– civil disputes, history, famines… In a part of the world where 53 countries of people speak over 1000 different kinds of languages, exercise different cultural practices and have different values and opinions, it is almost unimaginable how solidarity can be found in Africa. As unfathomable and daunting as looking for a way to unify Africa is, PUMA has undertaken the task with determination, passion for sports and a love for people.
With a goal in mind, PUMA has recently created the one unity uniform for African national teams and invited New York based artist, Kehinde Wiley, to paint a portrait of African togetherness featuring Samuel Eto’o, Emmanuel Eboue and John Mensah. As a introduction to the portrait and PUMA’s one unity project, PUMA has created a video, Of The Same Earth, telling the story of Africa, football and unity through painting.
In the video, Kehinde Wiley delves into his fascination with football, a sport which “brings together over one billion people speaking over 1000 languages across 53 countries in Africa”. According to Wiley, there is a “beauty in taking one ball to bring together an entire community”, and his painting sets out to further and realize that beauty onto canvas. For the painting, Wiley works in his signature style of heroic portrait while working in local elements such as fabrics, patterns and sculptures.
Check out the beautiful video, Of The Same Earth, and get the football fever going through a different lens. Also, a portion of profits from the sale of PUMA’s Africa Unity Kit and replica fanwear will be allocated to programs that support biodiversity in Africa, in partnership with UNEP’s Year of Biodiversity 2010.

Y-3 Fall/Winter 2010 Lookbook

We get a first look from the Y-3 Fall/Winter 2010 Collection. 20 men’s key looks were revealed at the Paris presentation giving an exclusive first glimpse at the Autumn / Winter range. For the coming season, Yohji Yamamoto and adidas are inspired by the tension of two opposite aesthetic ideals: TRADITION vs. FUTURE; juxtaposing heritage and classic values with an extreme futuristic expression.


This idea is illustrated through the use of a traditional color palette of charcoal grey, navy, black and white juxtaposed by strong pop colors of kelly green, purple and sapphire with traditional silhouettes done up in technically advanced fabrics. Stand out pieces include heavy knit fitted cardigans and blazers, wool flannel checked track pants and jackets, down jackets reinforced with Kevlar fabrics, jackets made from merino cashmere mixed with functional nylons, oversized wide gauge pull over sweaters and cardigans, oversized cropped pants, heavy wool knit leggings & cardigans as well as pea coats made of soft shearling leather.

Footwear provides a further example of this season’s theme where traditional sporting styles are highlighted by silver, bright purple and orange color accents that pop and push the futuristic idea further.

Palladium – Listen In: Berlin

Just in time for the Bread and Butter Berlin trade show, Palladium has debuted their fifth Exploration entitled Listen In: Berlin, in part of an ongoing documentary series. Hosted by Tom Littlewood, editor of VICE Magazine Germany, this episode explores the hidden, abandoned and forgotten places around a city known for its deep history and its role as the epicenter of the Cold War.
For Listen In: Berlin, the people at Palladium laced up their boots and took viewers to a mysterious hilltop, once occupied by WWII listening stations. These stations were known to eavesdrop on radio communications between the East and the hidden bunkers underneath the Tempelhof airport. Rumored to have been a hotbed of clandestine espionage, the airport now serves as the venue for the Bread and Butter trade show.
